Benefits of professional registration
Are you wondering whether professional registration is right for you? Some WES members have queried whether it is necessary given that many companies value relevant experience over accreditation, and that gaining professional registration requires expensive yearly outlays on institutional fees in order to maintain the status.
WES firmly believes that women should pursue professional registration, “Women with professional registrations in engineering command respect from other engineers who appreciate the high standards required to qualify. Professional registration immediately recognises capability without having to prove your worth at every stage, and gives women a competitive edge against those who are not registered.”
The Engineering Council is the UK regulatory body for the engineering profession, they set and maintain internationally recognised standards. They hold the national registers for Engineering Technicians (EngTech), Incorporated Engineers (IEng), Chartered Engineers (CEng) and Information and Communications Technology Technicians (ICT Tech).
According to the Engineering Council, the benefits are:
- Improved career prospects and employability
- Higher earning potential

- Enhanced status leading to higher self-esteem
