Apprentice Board Networking Events
The Apprentice Board has successfully organised a series of networking events tailored specifically for female engineering apprentices, with each event aimed at providing valuable opportunities for learning, networking, and personal growth. The events have been thoughtfully curated by the Apprentice Board members for other apprentices.
“The Power of Networking,” hosted by National Grid in February 2023, featured icebreaker activities and an inspirational talk from a female leader in the company, who kickstarted her career as an apprentice. This event allowed participants to forge meaningful connections and gain insights from someone who had walked a similar journey.
“Alexa, Connect Me,” held at Amazon’s EMA2 site in Mansfield on INWED 2023, offered attendees an exclusive opportunity for a site tour to witness the engineering processes behind the Amazon packages. Attendees had the chance to hear a female RME (Reliability Maintenace Engineering) Manager’s journey, creating a safe space for the apprentices to ask challenging and sensitive questions in a supportive environment.
Most recently, “Engineer Your Future,” hosted by Ricardo in March 2024, provided a platform for apprentices to interact with a panel of speakers, ask questions, and engage in team activities that encouraged networking and collaboration. These events have not only offered professional development opportunities but have also fostered a sense of community among female engineering apprentices.
The Apprentice Board is committed to continuing to organise such events, with the goal of having one event per board year. The success of these networking events would not have been possible without the support and collaboration of companies like National Grid, Amazon, and Ricardo, who have graciously hosted and contributed to the growth and development of aspiring female engineers.
