As part of International Women in Engineering Day 2024 on the 23 June, the Women’s Engineering Society (WES) is delighted to announce the winners of the 2024 Top 50 Women in Engineering (WE50) awards. The 2024 WE50 celebrates women who are trailblazers in the world of engineering under the theme Enhanced By Engineering. The full list of winners is available on www.wes.org.uk.
This year’s WE50 winners represent a diverse range of sectors including transport, construction, technology, and healthcare. The nominations were made both by individuals and professional institutes, and all were put forward because they have excelled in their field by developing engineering solutions that improve lives. The awards were judged by a panel of independent industry experts led by head judge, Professor Danielle George, Professor Radio Frequency Engineering and Associate Vice President at the University of Manchester.
The theme for this year’s WE50, “Enhanced by Engineering,” showcases the powerful impact made by women engineers. The winners are involved in everything from flood management, cyber security and renewable energy to space craft, pollution reduction and recycled plastic books. The breadth of talent emphasises that engineering is pervasive in almost every aspect of modern life and essential to building a better and more sustainable future.
The Top 50 Women in Engineering are announced each year on International Women in Engineering Day (INWED). INWED was founded by the Women’s Engineering Society (WES) and takes place annually on 23 June. This campaign continues to lead the way in providing female engineers around the world with a voice.
