Working in the construction and engineering industry is one that I truly love, all the people that I meet and work with are truly inspirational. Being a woman working in the industry and there are very few of us, has its challenges at times but overall the construction and engineering sector is jam packed with opportunities for both men and women. Particularly due to the gap of only 1% women in manual trades and under representation of women in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths this opens doors for those looking to progress their career.  As a board member of WES, it is my passion to promote career opportunities within the sector to other women and young people.

Lisa Marie BrownAfter working for a National charity and helping young people, I thought it would be the perfect opportunity to start  my own construction training business and I founded Pinkspiration. It has been an exciting journey and one which has given me opportunities to attend events with Lord Sugar and personally meet Richard Branson and Boris Johnson.

Currently I am working on a new programme called Design Factor which was endorsed by Peter Jones from Dragons Den and more recently Richard Branson’s Virgin Media and working on phase 4 in Swansea.

Design Factor is a unique roadshow that will help transform communities through business, construction, engineering, enterprise and skills training. Design Factor works with young people whom are not in education, employment or training to learn every aspect of running and enhancing empty community spaces/shops.

Training from planning, construction, engineering, finances, Marketing, enterprise, business and managing the whole project. The roadshow will work for two weeks in each area and encourage volunteers to become involved and progress into business. It will act like DIY SOS/60 minute makeover on a budget, with the over all aim of getting young people to be enterprising and creative. Encouraging them to think about starting up self employment and transforming communities at the same time.
