Womens Engineering Society: Inspiring women as engineers, scientists and technical leaders

EDT First Edition NWED Event at Glaziers Hall in London

EDT First Edition NWED Event at Glaziers Hall in London

Experience a ‘Women into Engineering’ initiative for schoolgirls
To see the type of initiative used to help engage girls in engineering at an early stage in their secondary school careers, media are invited to view an event at the Glaziers Hall in Central London taking place on National Women in Engineering Day (NWED) and involving around 100 girls in years 7 and 8 in South East schools. The event is called “First Edition”; dozens of First Edition one day events are run across the country every year to inspire ‘hard to reach’ groups, including girls, into engineering, maths, science, and technology studies and careers. First Edition is delivered nationally by education charity EDT and the event at the Glaziers Hall is sponsored by the Worshipful Company of Scientific Instrument Makers.
Media are welcome at the Glaziers Hall between 1pm and 2.30pm on NWED (23rd June 2014) where they will be able to observe activities, meet the girls involved, and speak to experts from EDT and mentors from the Worshipful Company of Scientific Instrument Makers.
Media passes are required. EDT’s media contact Andrew Third, on Andrew@integracommunications.co.uk or 07917691532 can arrange passes or provide further information.

One of the many events taking place on National Women in Engineering Day is an EDT ‘First Edition’ event for 100 girls in years 7 and 8 at London schools. Taking place at the Glaziers Hall  in Central London, and sponsored by the Worshipful Company of Scientific Instrument Makers, the event will seek to inspire girls to consider studying engineering careers by a mixture of engaging activities, meeting inspirational role models, and hearing about career opportunities. The event seeks to challenge stereotypes about engineering and show the girls the positive opportunities that engineering can offer them. National education charity EDT runs dozens of First Edition days across the country each year along with other initiatives to engage girls in science and engineering careers.
