At any and all times during a 24-hour period a "conversation" will take place somewhere in the world on issues for, by and about women in engineering and technology. 23 March 2010 - Opportunities in the Nuclear Industry for Women in SET
Free one-day workshop at Imperial College, Silwood Park, Ascot 10.00 a.m to 4.00 p.m.

The growth in nuclear power generation and the need to safely decommission some existing sites will provide exciting job opportunities for jobseekers with all types of engineering, environmental and science, including earth science, backgrounds in the areas of new build, decommissioning and waste management.  EMPower is therefore hosting a one-day FREE workshop in association with the UKRC South East Hub to tell you about what employers are looking for and the job opportunities available.please email ann.clark@reading.ac.uk as soon as possible andby Friday 29 January at the latest to reserve a place and to allow adequate time for the necessary security clearance.

23 March 2010 - Media Skills Workshop 
Free workshop at Hamilton House, London 9.30 a.m. to 4.30 p.m. organised by UKRC.

The workshop covers what makes a good story and how to tell it, followed by longer more practical sessions, when the delegates may have the opportunity to practice their skills and receive feedback.

28-29 April 2010 - CIWEM Annual Conference
Water and Environment at Olympia Conference Centre, London. The aim of the conference is to challenge and inspire the water and environmental community by sharing knowledge and best practic.

12 May 2010 - How to keep a good woman down Free Lecture  Professor Averill MacDonald, Reading University 1830 (coffee available from 1800). The Institute of Physics, 76 Portland Place, London W1B 1NT. Admission is FREE and open to non-members but please register beforehand by sending an email to Londonsoutheast@physics.org This talk will explore the lengths that the science community has gone to in the past to keep good women scientists out of the limelight. Was this a deliberate attempt to perpetuate the myth that only men can do science? Have we moved on or are there practices in place to ensure that good women are still kept down? And why is it that successful scientists never wash their own socks?
