Job description

BBC Studioworks Ltd is a commercial subsidiary of the BBC, providing worldclass studios, post production and related services. It works with production companies and broadcasters, making and editing content for a variety of broadcasters – from the BBC’s EastEnders, Children in Need and Strictly Come Dancing to E4’s Virtually Famous, ITV’s The Chase, ITV2’S Celebrity Juice and Sky’s A League of Their Own.

The core of BBC Studioworks’ operations are located in Elstree, but from 2017 the company will be expanding into revamped studio and post production facilities at Television Centre in Shepherd’s Bush opening in September 2017.

Main Responsibilities

Supervisory Engineers oversee the Studio Engineering teams, moving between areas as necessary to cover programme and maintenance needs across both Television Centre and Elstree sites. The role is challenged with a high level of technical complexity whilst working under the pressures that come with tight programme and operational deadlines. They are responsible for delivery in the maintenance, alignment, modification and operation of the wide range of broadcast equipment and systems deployed in our Studios and ensure the technical facilities necessary to meet programme requirements are made available

Other responsibilities include devising and developing systems, hardware and software to improve operational capability and to meet new programme requirements. Operational flexibility in accordance with the Scheduling Guidelines is essential.

 The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will have training and qualifications relevant to broadcast engineering with strong knowledge and experience of vision, sound, communication and computer systems relative to a television studio environment with the ability to make critical assessment of television pictures and waveforms as necessary.

A positive, enthusiastic manner with an ability to deal tactfully and sympathetically to requests from operational and production staff is essential coupled with strong customer awareness and an appreciation of productions requirements.

You will possess the ability to prioritise workload, excellent communication skills with proven problem solving ability.
