WES Essex Cluster runs successful CV Masterclass sessions

Introduction — a joint event for Women Engineering Society Members and BCS Women was run on both Thursday 09 and Saturday 11 April 2009 at Petite Patisserie, Westcliff on Sea. It was a CV Masterclass designed to suite those searching for a new position, climbing the career ladder, returning to work after redundancy or a career break or looking for a new direction. The timing was particularly apt in view of the current jumpy job market.

The event was organised by WES treasurer Betty McCarthy and led by Vanissa Amliwala, Director of Career-SOS Limited www.career-sos.com Special thanks are due to Vanissa Amliwala for not only devising the content and delivery but for also donating one of the two days to assist with 90th celebrations of WES.

Running the CV Masterclass on both a weekday and a weekend addressed the needs of both those in work and those taking a career break or in-between jobs. What was covered…

  • What makes a good CV?
  • How should it be presented? Getting the format right – different styles and types of CV
  • The nitty gritty of producing a powerful CV. What should I include? What can be left out? What order should it go in? How long should it be?
  • How to sell your skills and experience without going OTT
  • Common pitfalls and how to avoid them
  • CV top tips

All attendees received an informative CV Masterclass pack containing in-depth practical guidance on how to create a powerful CV with real impact.

westminster

March 2005 gave way to an interesting combine group field trip for the London WES Circle and Essex Cluster.

This trip included a host of fun packed educational activities as well as a good chance to catch up on all the lastest engineering news from other members.

The trip consisted of a grand tour of The Houses of Parliment and House of Lords and apparently some insightful information from the tourguide. Unfortunately looking at the actual engineering of The Houses of Parliment wasn't possible due to security reason.

A wonderful experience enjoyed by all. Thanks to the organiser who make it possible.
