Awards: The Award for Promoting Acoustics to the Public 2005

Biography

Bronwen graduated from the Royal School of Music and Drama but has also undergone a formal science education. She is currently an employee of Techniquest in Cardiff, one of the UK's premier science centres. She has been the driving force behind a small team which has raised substantial funds to develop a large number of unique and innovative science exhibits and educational programmes. In particular, the award panel noted the new "Musiquest" exhibits and programmes which portrays the beauty of musical acoustics to a general audience. The 35 Musiquest exhibits are currently on display to the 180,000 annual visitors at Techniquest, but there are plans to take them on tour throughout the UK.
On receiving her award, Bronwen said, “Acoustics is a fascinating area of study and one that has a fundamental impact on many aspects of our everyday lives. Through the project I have developed, I aimed to make the complexity of acoustic research accessible to the general public and schoolchildren. It’s amazing how much science can help enrich our understanding of the world around us”.
