Lottie's week with Holly

Lottie's week with Holly

Lottie 1Lottie and I had a great week during Tomorrow’s Engineers Week! We started off doing some work in the office, completing a design for diverting an overhead line to allow necessary reinforcement works to take place. This involves designing the new routes by analysing the network and the physical area where the diversion is required, then selecting and costing for all the materials required.

Lottie 2We then headed down to Leeds on the Tuesday to visit the Schneider Factory. There we got to see how different types of switchgear were manufactured and learn about the newest products available. My favourite bit was seeing the assembly of the ring main units from start to finish, which I have previously operated!

We were back in the office on Wednesday where we attended a course on Earthing, we learnt about the importance of earthing in relation to the electrical network and how it should be dealt with from a design perspective.

On Thursday we spent the day working on a community project that I have been involved with since the summer. We worked on the final report which discussed how energy saving building technologies and renewable generation could be used to reduce the running costs for a community football stadium which was being constructed by a charitable trust.

To end the week we sat down with my manager to construct my Development Action Plan which allows me to track my progress and learnings to be used as evidence when I apply to be a Chartered Engineer through the IET.
